How to Make 2011 Your Healthiest and Best Year Ever

by Anna D

As you may already know, on January 27, 2011, four East Bay health and fitness experts, including myself, got together to deliver an amazing event that gave East Bay residents their “Best Body Blueprint” for 2011. It was entitled, “How to Make 2011 Your Healthiest and Best Year Ever.” The event was a huge success and we were able to raise $250 for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

If you are wondering how much food $250 generates, our Food Bank representative, Renee, sent us this picture along with the items they can buy with just $10:

  • 2 cans tuna
  • 1 jar peanut butter
  • 2 cans chicken
  • 3 lbs onions
  • 2 lbs rice
  • 2 cans fruit cocktail
  • 2 lbs pinto beans
  • 3 lbs sweet potatoes
  • 1 box cereal
  • 5 lbs potatoes
  • 3 lbs apples

As you can see, we are able to help a lot of families with $250 and we thank everyone who attended the event and donated their hard-earned money to this great cause. We know you are busy and we appreciate you coming out to learn how to improve your quality of life and help a great charity at the same time.

For those of you who did not make it to the event, I asked Dr. Jaspreet Mundeir, Dr. Larry Callaway, and Lauren Masi, MPT and of course myself, what we wanted people to take away from our presentations. Here is just a small sample of what we offered to our audience that night.

The Big Idea In Health
by Dr. Larry Callaway, DC

  • Your body is built to be healthy. It is important to allow your body to take care of itself.
  • If you are stuck in a chronic pattern, pain system, disease or illness…Make sure you find out the source of the issue, the symptom may not be coming from where you think it is.
  • The nervous system is the most important system in your body. If you have not tested its function lately, it is time to figure out how it is functioning.

  • Put yourself first. Think of giving your car a regular oil change. In this case, your body is your car and it is up to you to regularly maintain it so it functions properly.
  • Prevention is always better than repair.
  • Be aware of your daily activities and the wear and tear you put your body through regularly as the cumulative effect of these things are usually the cause of injury (ie: ergonomics, bending/lifting mechanics, weight of your purse, stress, carrying extra body weight, smoking, etc.)

6 ways Natural Medicine can transform your life

  • Spend your dollars wisely. Print a list of the “dirty dozen” which can be found at www.ewg.org and take it the grocery store with you.
  • Prevention is the best cure – your body has the ability to heal itself and it is your job to aid this process. You can do this by doing a regular cleanse wherein you eliminate refined, processed foods from your diet and you eat more raw fruits and vegetables.
  • When buying produce, it is important to remember:
  • Conventionally grown produce has 4 digits (pesticides are used in this process)
  • Genetically engineered produce has 5 numbers and starts with number 8 (scientists have messed with it)
  • Organically grown produce also has 5 numbers but starts with number 9

3 Ways to Transform Your Body in Record Time!
by Anna Dornier, CPT, RKC

  • Educate Yourself – having a complete workout program which includes cardio and strenth training and a nutrition plan that fits your lifestyle are the keys to long-term success and avoid yo-yo dieting.
  • Recruit your supportive weight loss team – not everyone will be supportive once you start seeing progress. Some of your friends and family may say not-so-nice-things like “you’re too skinny” or “you don’t even look good.” These comments can be discouraging so you’ll need to carefully select people who have similar fitness goals as you do so you can reach your fitness goals all the way. Finding a fitness buddy or joining a fitness bootcamp are some ways you can do this.
  • Get an Action Plan – not having enough knowledge is a big deterrent to your fitness goals. Getting a fitness trainer to design a workout plan for you or joining a structured fitness program can accelerate your results and minimize mistakes.

As you can probably tell, we have gone into more detail for each item and shared much more information at the event and a lot of people were so impressed at how much they learned. We have no doubt that our audience will have their healthiest and best year ever!
